POSITION: Security Officer
LOCATION: District Wide – As Assigned
REPORTS TO: Site Principal or Designee
JOB GOAL:
- To assist the Principal in maintaining a safe school environment for students and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful:
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License
- IVP Fingerprint Clearance card is required
- Experienced with student safety and school environment (Desirable)
- Ability to work with staff, teachers and students at various educational levels
- Proficient communicator with excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of district staff and with a diverse community.
- Ability to work independently

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work closely with and maintain open communication with the Principal or Designee to provide safe and positive student and staff environment.
- Patrols, periodically, buildings and grounds of educational facility.
- Examines doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
- Operates golf carts and other motorized vehicles safely.
- Warns violators of rule infractions, such as loitering, smoking, or carrying forbidden articles, and apprehends or expels persons engaging in suspicious or criminal acts.
- Assists with correcting student behavior.
- Escorts students when necessary.
- May conduct student searches of personal belongings and person within board policies and local laws and regulations.
- Inspects equipment and machinery to ascertain if tampering has occurred.
- Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, leaking water pipes, and security doors left unlocked.
- Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
- Sounds alarm or calls police or fire department by telephone in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
- Permits authorized persons to enter property.
- Registers at watch stations to record time of inspection trips.
- Attends training when required.
- Records data such as property damage, unusual occurrences, and malfunctioning of machinery or equipment, for use of supervisory staff.
- Regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic at plant entrance to maintain orderly flow.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Site Principal may assign.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 9-month contract, Hourly/Non-Exempt position under FLSA. Placement on Classified salary schedule by the Director of Human Resources dependent upon education and experience

- Must pass Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance check.
- Must be United States citizen or have valid work visa at date of hire with the ability to maintain. All changes in visa status must be reported to Human Resources immediately. Photo identification and work visa, (if necessary), will be needed for fingerprint clearance card and I-9 documentation prior to first day of work.
EVALUATION:
- Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
- Proof of Mumps, Measles and Rubella, (MMR) vaccination.
- Valid government issued identification or current work visa with expiration date.
- Unofficial copies of transcripts will be accepted with applications, official transcripts will be due upon job offer*
* Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation, (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, (NACES). Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.
