POSITION: Grounds Maintenance Worker II
LOCATION: District Wide – As Assigned
REPORTS TO: Grounds Supervisor
JOB GOAL:
- To assist the Grounds Supervisor in maintaining a safe and clean school environment for students and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful:
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License
- Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance card is required
- Experienced with various grounds maintenance tools and equipment
- Knowledge of sprinkler systems and ability to repair such systems
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work with staff, teachers and students at various educational levels
- Proficient communicator with excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of district staff and with a diverse community
- Able and willing to work in a team atmosphere
- Ability to work independently when necessary
- Ability to use constructive techniques to resolve conflict

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Work closely with and maintain open communication with the Principal and Facility Manager to provide safe and positive student and staff environment.
- Cuts lawns, trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
- Sprays lawn, shrubs, and trees with fertilizer, herbicides, and insecticides.
- Maintains and repairs sprinkler systems.
- Rakes and bags or burns leaves.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Waters lawn and shrubs.
- Repairs fences, gates, walls, and walks, paints fences and outbuildings.
- Cleans out drainage ditches and culverts.
- Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, and spreader, and snow removal equipment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 12-month, Hourly/Non-Exempt position under FLSA. Placement on Classified salary schedule by the Director of Human Resources dependent upon education and experience

- Must pass Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance check.
- Must be United States citizen or have valid work visa at date of hire with the ability to maintain. All changes in visa status must be reported to Human Resources immediately. Photo identification and work visa, (if necessary), will be needed for fingerprint clearance card and I-9 documentation prior to first day of work.
EVALUATION:
- Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
- Proof of Mumps, Measles and Rubella, (MMR) vaccination.
- Valid government issued identification or current work visa with expiration date.
- Unofficial copies of transcripts will be accepted with applications, official transcripts will be due upon job offer*
* Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation, (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, (NACES).
