REPORTS TO:                  Custodial Supervisor / Maintenance Director
 
JOB GOAL:
To maintain the sanitation standards set forth by the Maintenance Director and Custodial Supervisor while maintaining a safe, team-oriented, and positive working environment.
 
JOB SUMMARY:
Keeps school campus, classrooms, office buildings, or similar buildings in clean and orderly condition; does daily and weekly duties as assigned in groups or independently; checks for any needed repairs to the campus or classrooms and reports them to maintenance and/or grounds personnel either verbally or via work order.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful:
  • Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance from other staff.
  • Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme temperatures. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Works closely with and maintains open communication with the Custodial Supervisor and Administrator to provide a clean, safe and positive student and staff environment.
  • Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums hallways, classrooms, stairs and office space.
  • Conducts major cleaning during designated times to include: waxing/stripping floors, deep cleaning of classrooms, open spaces, and offices, gum removal and graffiti removal.
  • Maintains buildings, performs minor and routine painting, replaces lights as needed.
  • Notifies maintenance personnel concerning need for minor or major repairs or additions to lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment.
  • Picks up trash in the common areas of the property.
  • Performs other custodial duties as needed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
12-month, Hourly (Non-exempt) position under FLSA. Placement on classified salary schedule by the Human Resource Director dependent upon education and experience. Benefits – All approved benefits for classified employees. Must pass Department of Public Safety Fingerprint clearance check. Must be United States citizen or have valid work visa at date of hire with the ability to maintain. All changes in visa status must be reported to Human Resources immediately. Photo identification and work visa, (if necessary), will be needed for fingerprint clearance card and I-9 documentation prior to first day of work.
 
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Maintenance Director and Custodial Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the board’s policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
 
REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:
  • Proof of Mumps, Measles and Rubella, (MMR) vaccination.
  • Valid government issued identification or current work visa with expiration date.
  • Unofficial copies of transcripts will be accepted with applications, official transcripts will be due upon job offer.

* Transcripts issued in a language other than English must be accompanied by a full translation, (word for word) by an acceptable translator. Additionally, each foreign transcript must be evaluated for equivalency to United States accredited coursework by an acceptable agency such as those agencies certified by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services, (NACES). Applications containing foreign transcripts that are not accompanied with the above required documentation will not be considered.
